A Panchayat is a collective body of elected representatives formed to carry out the administrative functions of Panchayati Raj institutions. In the case of a Grama Panchayat, it is the main committee responsible for implementing the decisions of the Gram Sabha and managing day-to-day governance.The main components of a Panchayat are:President: The head of the Panchayat. Presides over meetings and supervises the overall functioning of the Panchayat.Vice President: Performs the duties in the absence of the President.Ward Members: Elected representatives from each ward of the Panchayat.Standing Committees: Formed to facilitate the functioning and decision-making of the Panchayat in areas such as finance, development, welfare, health, and education.

History of Grama Panchayat

“Kumbla” is a historic land known for the legacy of the Ballal and Mayippadi dynasties, freedom struggles, and rich cultural diversity. Named after the kumbha-shaped river, the region is home to traditions like Yakshagana and Kambala. It is also the ancestral village of former Indian cricket captain Anil Kumble. Historically, Kumbala was an important port town engaged in the export of handloom products, rice, and dried fish. The first Grama Panchayat administration was formed in 1963 under M.C. Abdul Khader Haji.
